  • This is kinda awkward because what are we gonna do? Put the same textures we made for brawl in melee? Its slightly pointless cause Brawl has more characters and possibilities. I’m not undermining Steelia’s skill and whatnot for this pretty cool find but it doesn’t really seem all that exciting.

Model hacking is what Im waiting for πŸ˜€ Anyway good job. But for something this important, the title should be more epic, don’t ya think? More like “OMG, MELEE TEXSURE HAXSES!!1elventy-one!!11”

  • Well, I’m guessing that’s why the hack was for Mewtwo. Why shouldn’t they texture hack characters we haven’t seen hacked before before?

Plus, it could be a matter of time before the models from Melee could be hacked into Brawl. πŸ˜€

  • @Psytrese: A bit of a pipe dream, given Brawl’s popularity is still spiked… but we could always hope for that. One would think hacking the GCN games would be a heck of a lot easier than messing with Brawl.
But yeah, the main reason I/we are hacking Melee is for the sake of those who either still play it… to play around with the 5 characters that Brawl does NOT have… and to add something a little different to our team. Because, you know, EVERYone’s texture hacking Brawl and only Brawl these days… πŸ˜›

  • Sorry to correct you S. but “to play around with the 4 characters that Brawl does NOT have…”

  • @PAVGN

    Uhh…

Let me count: Roy, Mewtwo, Pichu, Dr.Mario, Young Link. 5.

Also, yeah, I gotta admit that this will be nice for those 5 characters but for the others, it’s kind of pointless.

I’ll just wait for you to impress me once again, S. πŸ˜›

  • stages would be fun to texture hack for melee.

  • @BigSharkZ

Young Link IS in Brawl! They call him Toon Link now. What they change his appearance and name and all of the sudden he’s a completely different character?!

  • @PAVGN: (There ARE differences between YL and TL moveset-wise as well… Somewhat minor, but they definitely exist.)
To put it plainly, the two are extremely similar, but aren’t the same character. How many fighters have you seen in other fighting games that are fashioned after one another, even in sequels or prequels? *MORTALLL COMBAAAAAAAAAAT*
TL doesn’t resemble YL in the slightest, anyway, other than being small. U:<

  • Young link =/= Toon Link.

Yes, he’s a compleatly different character. TL is in the Wind Waker and Phantom’s Hourglass. It’s link, but as a TOON. Young Link is premature link who is in Link’s past, not link’s present. πŸ˜›

  • @PAVGN: I agree with everyone else I’m afraid.

He’s a completely different character in the same way that being 7years younger than melee Link doesn’t stop him being classed as a completely different Link.

    He’s classed as a different character, so he’s a different character…deal with it. πŸ˜›

  • @BigSharkZ

It seems pointless, until you factor in the fact that Brawl and Melee are completely different games and many people (myself included) believe that Melee is the superior game.

It’s like saying “Why make hacks of Mario Bros. 3 when you can make hacks of Super Mario World”? They’re different games…

  • Toon Link = Young Link as a cartoon. One difference doesn’t make him a completely different character. If you people are still going to be so stupid as to think that then let me ask you this: Why aren’t Melee (Adult) Link, Melee Ganondorf, Melee Marth, Melee Mario Etc. Considered lost characters? There are differences in the Brawl movesets for these characters and the Melee movesets for these characters too. So why not consider them lost characters too?

  • @Anth0ny

Brawl is superior to Melee and it has way more possibilities in hacking. I stopped playing Melee anyway.

    @PAVGN

Melee Link was replaced with TP Link. It’s the same character, considered in brawl, but they’re from two different eras. Same for Ganondorf. Marth and Mario are the same characters, just with enhanced graphics. Toon Link and Young Link are two different characters from two different eras. They didn’t do like Link; Make a enhanced version of Young Link because he was not in TP.

  • They’re amalgams. Zelda’s the best example, having had OoT Zelda’s ability to transform into Sheik and an unchanging demeanor from Melee to Brawl (which contradicts the more emotional Zelda of Ocarina of Time anyway).

  • @BigSharkZ

Brawl+ is superior to Melee. Melee is superior to both. Smash 64 is superior to all.

  • @Slashy: lol no

no hacked version of such a gay ass game will ever be better than melee

  • ‘Brawl is superior to Melee’

Thousands would disagree with you. But it’s all opinion.

‘and it has way more possibilities in hacking.’

That would be correct. If anyone said otherwise, that’s just dumb. However, I’d love to see new colors for Fox and Falco in Melee. Just something as simple as that would make me happy.

  • Do you guys ever stop amazing the crowd? I didnt think melee THing was possible! and i knew this wasnt brawl quite obvious really. A purple FD? I havent even seen a texture hack of that! and….the analog and quit combo in the corner…you would have to have no mind to not see those!

  • @GirugaMarc: If you think Brawl is gay a** then why are you even posting here? πŸ˜›

@PAVGN: I think Shark and BP explained why they’re different characters. :U

And the Smash series gives a set moveset to characters based on what is going on in their games at the time of their creation. F.L.U.D.D. did not exist in the time of Melee’s creation. If it did I’m sure that would be Mario’s down-b attack. Brawl movesets are revamps of Melee revamps. πŸ˜›

  • @HSX

BigSharkZ said “Melee Link was replaced with TP Link. It’s the same character, considered in brawl, but they’re from two different eras.” Then he said “Toon Link and Young Link are two different characters from two different eras.”

…What?! Please explain to me how that makes sense because frankly, I don’t understand how If one character’s former self is replaced with a newer version they are considered the same character. Yet If the same thing is done to another character they are considered different characters.

Also HSX, Going along with your comment about how the movesets are based on what’s going on at the time of their creation, I can assure you that Young Link in Melee would have had a cartoon stye look If It existed at the time.

  • Link from Wind Waker and kid Link from OoT are still different people.

  • So are Link from Oot and Link from TP, Yet they aren’t considered different characters. If that’s really the standard that your going to set for what makes a character different then why not apply It to ALL of the different Links instead of just Young Link and Toon Link?

  • I don’t know. Go ask Sakurai.

  • (WARNING! CHALLENGER APPROACHING!
    WALLOFTEXT)

@PAVGN: Young Link is called “Young Link”, and Toon Link is called “Toon Link”, not Young Link. Sakurai and co. had the brains (surprise, surprise~) to understand that they were REPLACING Young Link with Toon Link — a carbon copy in almost every way, but a different character nonetheless.
So given TL is not called “Young Link” gives some credibility to this fact that they’re 2 separate characters.
Sakurai and co. could’ve called Link “Twilight Princess Link,” or something along those lines… but they didn’t. They understood that the Link they have is a representative hybrid of Links in each game, whereas Young Link was based on his look from OoT… and Toon Link based on his looks from Wind Waker, despite the very similar fighting styles. (If you notice, the Link in Brawl doesn’t look EXACTLY like TP Link… Clothing-wise, yes, but not his face structure…)

But, in any case, can we please drop this, PAVGN? You can keep believing that TL and YL are the same character… We’ve given our input here, and we understand where you’re going at.

@the smasher: Thanks. Nice observance there. πŸ˜›

@Anth0ny: What color coatings do you have in mind? πŸ™‚

  • You should make mewtwo into lucario. I just wanna see what itd look like, since people have done lucario into mewtwo.
    πŸ˜€

  • @HSX: um…because the texture hacks are interesting?

texture hacks and music hacks are the only thing Brawl is good for

  • ‘@Anth0ny: What color coatings do you have in mind? ‘

    DARK FALCO LOLOL

But yeah, mostly stuff already made in Brawl. Fierce Deity Link would be awesome. Vegeta Fox is a great texture, and would look cool in Melee even if Fox doesn’t have a scouter.

    CAPTAIN OBAMA IN MELEE LOLWUT

  • @S.

Well, what can I say I have been a fan of the serries since melee(born the year of SSB came out or feew after IDK) I have known alot i never took the time to learn those shit skillz a techs like wavdashing and l-canceling but melee is something i know. But…why is his tail overlaping his leg, and why is he missing an arm?

  • Wow, I’m glad to finally see progress with melee hacking. a few months ago I spent many an hour on the internet only to discover that it went as far as a partially completed model extractor… then nothing!

question – do you guys have any idea where I could find a gamecube native .dsp converter? i’ve been looking to audio hack melee for a while but apparently everyone who has the dsp converter disappeared forever.

  • Now if only homebrew on the Gc (or Wii) Would allow us to Make such realities come true. You guys win the Smash bros series.

  • @ “S.”

Link from Brawl is only supposed to be a collection of all the other general Link’s in theory. He is 100% supposed to be the ACTUAL Link from Twilight Princess though. The reason his cloths are the same and slight differences in the face is because SOMEONE ELSE MODELED HIM! Sonic’s smile isn’t right in Brawl either (check his character select image) It doesn’t mean it’s a NEW or OTHER Sonic, it’s just their best effort.

Besides, I don’t like TP = Jonathan Taylor Thomas – Link. Link belongs having a more elvish face with BLOND HAIR.

  • @Gamez1985:

Way to dig up a dead horse. <_<
