Links please

Androu’s Bad Graphics Link grew up for another quest. Link from Zelda II: Adventure of Link is here and he brought drinks. Link drinks.

  • Hahahahaha! This’ll piss people off!

    Nice!

  • The tighs and the sword should be flesh-colored :U

  • The sword is (at least, I colored it the same way). I was afraid of Link looking pantsless if I were too true to the sprite…

  • LOL, Nice captions.

  • LMFAO! I can’t fucking believe It. This is just great! Also I am error.

  • Link from the game from hell. Noice.

  • Lol, he looks like a mint. Nice to see this texture, though, if only it wasn’t associated with… that game…

  • Jeebuz, I am so sick of graphics-people..
Graphics does NOT mean everything, god damnit.

  • @pl0xmax123

You’re right on that but I would rather play as a detailed texture than MSPainted one. Yes, graphics don’t mean anything, gameplay does. I’m 100% on that. But if the game has the capacity of being detailed, then so be it.

  • Come to think of it, Hotel Mario didn’t have that bad gameplay… S=P

  • @Spookers

Actually, the gameplay sucked ass. Look at AVGN’s video about it.

  • these days you guys seemed to look… dunno… DRUNK? D:

  • Gameplay whatever. Make it pretty while you’re at it, would you? I spend about as much time looking at a game’s environment and details as I do playing to get to the end. Makes me sick that Nintendo fanboys (especially those born in 1995 or so) are obsessed with the NES for no clear reason and disregard the leaps that digital art has made in the last twenty years.

Nintendo needs to pick up on enhanced remakes again. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask are thirsty for the All-Star treatment. The Virtual Console can eat my shorts.

  • @BigsharkZ

You do relize that he is joking right? Thats just how he is.

  • Good graphics/Bad graphics argument?!?!?!?! OOHFUN!!!!

I’m definitely on the gameplay bandwagon. Games that are advertised only for their graphics make me sick. Graphics are important to a game’s delivery, but should not be so focused upon that the game itself is forgotten.

However, this argument here is moot. The whole point of this texture is to emulate a simpler time. This texture is supposed to be bad- if only to replicate the feel of older graphics. More texture is possible, and if you’re a graphics freak, then there are plenty of Link textures to pick from, but this texture is for “Nintendo fanboys born in 1995” that BirdPerson spoke of.

Of the texture, it looks effective. My only thought is that the browns should be lighter (by just a little), and the sword should not be shiny.

  • There really isn’t much of an argument either way on the Gameplay vs. Graphics debate. They’re both essential. Fair enough pre-8bit era, the graphics were piss pants poor. But 8bit and onwards you could make some really fun games that were also great to look at.

In some cases the graphics hardly stood the test of time, but they were revolutionary.

Graphics were never the problem, the problem was the level design and the layout of the stages that could possibly leave people unable to tell what the hell they’re looking at and where to go. Pac-Man is an example of simple graphics, but a simple and perfect level design that makes it a classic.

But, although I agree that creating a solid game engine and perfecting the physics are essential before working on how the game looks…I still think that after all that the game needs to at least look half decent.

It’s great being able to say your game mimics real-life physics, and that the gameplay is perfect, but if I can’t see what I’m doing then it’s all for naught.

  • Exactly. When I’m playing a fun game with bad (or aged) graphics, I find myself wishing it looked better. Distracting. But if the graphics AND game are both excellent (Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Galaxy, Mirror’s Edge)… I drip enjoyment from my ears. I mean, Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Kazooie are great, but enhanced remakes would be greater.

  • xD the Nintendo fanboys of 1995 are in a state of anachronism.

  • Yeah, OoT looks, IMO, like shit nowadays.

The graphics of the 64’s Zeldas are really bad, they need to remake these games 😐

  • epicwinnage, bellieve4 it or not Zelda II is a great game, just different

  • I didn’t like it much. Zelda’s taken on a really different feel since the NES era, one that strays from “look it’s medieval isn’t that great” and has created its own identity. I like that. Except Twilight Princess–way too much interaction with other characters. In the end, all Telma’s Recruits and friggin’ Midna actually do is steal Link’s thunder.
